UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., April 13, 2006 - More than 80 members of the Penn State Football team are expected to compete in the Fourth Annual Penn State Football Lift For Life Challenge on Friday, July 14. The event will take place from 2-7 p.m. in Holuba Hall adjacent to the Lasch Football Building.
Founded by Penn State Football teammates in 2003, Lift For Life continues to build awareness and raise donations for the Kidney Cancer Association, a charity representing a medically under-served cause. The first three Lift For Life events have raised more than $80,000 for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney cancer.
Lift For Life is a strength and conditioning competition during which the squad breaks into teams of four and competes in a series of 11 challenges. The events range from more traditional exercises like bench press to more extreme challenges like the 200-lb. plate carry and giant tire flip.
The event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10 per person or $25 per family. Fans will have a chance to meet and get autographs from current and former members of the Penn State Football team.
Benefiting from the experience of professional development and social responsibility, current squad members Darien Hardy, Jason Ganter, Mark Rubin, and Kevin Suhey, football manager Matt Workman, as well as Penn State students Mark Mihalik and Greg Lisa, are the primary organizers of the event.
